Get to know the first scholarship award recipient (2005) Phyllis Jean Richardson PJR Youth Scholarship...A Tribute to a Great Helper HER FAITH...HER FAMILY...HER FRIENDS It is with regret that we announce the home going of one of our founders, Phyllis Jean Richardson. Phyllis was a mighty intercessor, youth worker, and ministry facilitator. New Destiny Ministries is sponsoring a scholarship in Phyllis’s memory to honor her commitment to young people. For over 35 years Phyllis worked with young people. She was their Sunday School teacher, transportation provider, counselor, advisor, and for some...a surrogate mother. She was known to provide food and clothing for the neediest children that she ministered to. As a professional accountant, Phyllis understood the importance of teaching young people how to handle money. She began a Youth Savings Ministry at Glory Tabernacle, Bridgeton, NJ. This ministry was designed to teach children how to manage money wisely. It also taught parents how to teach their children to be fiscally responsible. Phyllis was and extraordinary individual who loved life. She loved entertaining and organizing family gatherings. She enjoyed traveling, singing, gospel concerts, and “busting on” her three sisters. Phyllis was surrounded by her husband of nearly 20 years, Sylvester, sisters, brothers, and a niece during her final hours. They sang hymns, read scriptures, kissed and hugged her. They told her how much they loved her. She turned her head towards each one. Unable to speak, a tear rolled down her cheeks. As the glory of the Lord surrounded that hospital room she fixed her eyes towards heaven and gently went home to glory. Through her intercession and ministry of helps Phyllis helped dozens of women and teenagers overcome the bondages of rape, incest, spousal abuse, and addictions. She was a catalyst of healing and deliverance for many people. Her motto was: no matter how bad it’s been… never count God out. He can do anything! Phyllis loved seeing people get delivered by the power of God. Phyllis Jean knew that it was her time to go to glory. Just weeks before she died, she told friends that she was ready to go home. A few days before she died, she said, “No more isims or schisms…I have seen the Lord. I have seen glory. I finished my race. I am ready to go home.” When family members came to pray for her in the hospital, she prayed for them. “I thank God for everyone who has loved me and taken care of me. Lord, bless each and every one of them. Thank you for the doctors and nurses.” Her only child, Joshua Richardson, wrote a poem that described her as an angel. She was like an angel to many. She will be sorely missed. People wishing to contribute to the scholarship fund may give through New Destiny Ministries. All contributions are tax deductible.
